SIPC Through The Years
College life is much more interesting to me than my high school life. When I entered this school, I had the thought that it might be the best school for me, perhaps because it is far from malls that could distract me from my studies. I took an exam for the Secondary Education course with a major in Mathematics and I was happy to pass. At this institution, I've met different people with varying personalities. I have learned many things about my subject that will surely be useful in the near future. Many things require my priority, especially my studies. I always need to manage my time to ensure that all my work is completed on time.
In my college life, I have had many experiences, not just with my teachers and classmates, but also with my schoolmates and subjects. There are many activities at school that we enjoy and that provide us with knowledge and experiences. This might be the most challenging part of my life because I have to be independent, as my sister is also studying. However, I am grateful to be a Brgy. Scholar, which provides financial assistance for my studies.
In my first and second years, I had the opportunity to attend summer classes. It was very enjoyable and I got to know my classmates well. We enjoyed watching movies in our World Literature course and bonding with our teacher. My college life has made a significant difference from my high school life. I am a very busy person with many responsibilities, but I am grateful for my classmates who have become my friends and helped me become a sociable and happy person.
Bachelor of Secondary Education offers different majors, such as Mathematics, English, Social Studies, T. L. E., Biology, etc. This course prepares students for their future. I chose to major in Mathematics because I know this is where I excel. In this course, we learn, train, and participate in activities related to our major. We are trained to become good model teachers. To graduate, we need to pass all the subjects we take. Our teachers often give us opportunities to present in front of our classmates and teachers to reduce our nerves. This course offers many activities every year, including competitions between courses in sports and academics. Our school, Southern Iloilo Polytechnic College (SIPC), holds a special Education Day every December before the Christmas vacation, which we celebrate with other majors and years. We also hold a search for Mr. and Miss Education Day, and celebrate it overnight. This course is challenging, with many problems and happy moments that we will encounter in the four years of our struggles. All these experiences will prepare us for the future.
SIPC, located in Miagao, Iloilo, beside the Miagao National High School, is one of the government schools in Iloilo. It was originally Miagao Vocational School but was renamed SIPC in 1984 under the administration of Jose V. Francisco (1976-1985) as the Superintendent. SIPC originally offered shop courses to meet the community's needs, but now serves the educational needs of more than two thousand students with two- and four-year courses. Some courses at SIPC have been accredited by the AACUP, Inc. and the school is working towards becoming a university in two years. SIPC is part of the Western Visayas College of Science and Technology.
